Fresh new layout; expect more posts

First of all if you haven't already seen the new layout I hope you enjoy it. The header image at the top I edited myself using three different pictures, and I'm very pleased with how it turned out.

I used to post on this blog a lot more often before any of my books were published. I think after Cursed With Power was published I did less and altogether stopped because what I posted on here was also posted on my main blog. Now that the layout is new, and I've finally updated everything I want to try and post more on here. I will also try to share my posts on my Facebook page more often so new viewers can visit as well.
My new plan is to post different material on this blog, and it doesn't need to be the major stuff that's already on my other one. Here I might talk about one specific topic relating to the series and etc. There are so many posts I've planned to eventually write that I think it's doable.
So if you're a follower of this blog and you thought I altogether abandoned it, here I am to assure you that is not the case. I will try posting more often, but keep in mind my main blog will still the big announcements where you want to go. (Releases and cover reveals will also be included on this blog simply because it is a part of the series.) If you have ideas or suggestions of what you would like to see on this blog (relating to the series) please leave a comment below and let me know.
Hopefully everyone is enjoying their summer, and expect another post soon. Until then, take a look at the right side bar. I've added my word count for the upcoming fourth book, Bloodline Inheritance. Today I will definitely be reaching past the 10k mark, which is very exciting. This book almost seems to be writing itself -oh wouldn't that be lovely?

NEW Release: Thicker Than Blood

Thicker Than Blood is the third installment in the Magicians series. In the third book, we follow Alaire Sencler's story as he struggles with his unique gift and the coming war. We've known Alaire since the beginning in Cursed With Power when he first saved Celestria. He returned again in Shadows and Embers, seeking to help Leal calm his lust for vengeance. Now he is returning for a third time to share his adventure and tell the story from his point of view.

I am very excited today to be sharing the release of Thicker Than Blood with you and hope you'll help spread the word too. In honor of the release I even finally decided to update this blog and give it a fresh look. Take a look around and hope you enjoy! (Definitely looks a lot better and moves more smoothly.) Anyways, Let's get this party started!

Official summary:
Alaire Sencler is not the man he used to be. He left behind a foul and bloody past to be with the woman he loves, but the memories never allow him to forget what he did.
While the White magicians raise an army, their leader hides his true reasons for going to war. Meanwhile the Dark magicians seek out a new haven, one that might keep them hidden long enough to prepare for the war that is raging on outside their doorstep.
Though Alaire has a unique gift and the woman of his dreams by his side, he has yet to come to terms with Esmour's death and what the future holds for him. New faces and the revealing of the fifth Dark magicians offers hope, but only the strongest will survive in the final battle.
Whoever said "blood runs thicker than water" never knew what it is like to be a part of the current.

Share the word and tell your friends about Alaire's story. Want to mention him on Twitter? Use the hashtag #ThickerThanBlood or #ThickerThanBloodRelease
There's been a lot of talk about Alaire, and I hope this book can serve him justice. It was a great experience to work one-on-one with him and know him better. Don't forget to send in pictures of when you receive your copy of the book.
In case you haven't read the previous two books, here's the links:
Cursed With Power -Celestria's story
Shadows and Embers -Leal's story

As you can see in my new author bio I have revealed the title for the upcoming fourth book. I'll be sharing more details on that later on in the month (most likely). For now Alaire can have all the glory... just don't tell Leal (he tends to be jealous).
Even though Alaire is a fictional character, I'm sure if he was real he would want to thank everyone for the amazing support and positivity. So on his behalf and mine, thank you for supporting the series. I hope you'll read the book and join in on his adventure. Remember there's plenty of ways to share the release news, and I hope you will help me spread the word. I couldn't do this without your support!

Cover reveal: Thicker Than Blood

I'm a little late posting the cover reveal on this blog, but better late than never. I cannot tell you how proud I am with the participation and responses to the cover reveal. This has been such a wonderful start to the Alaire's journey. I'm thrilled to share Alaire's story with you and cannot wait for the release in August.
Without further ado, let's see the cover.

Thicker Than Blood is the third installment in the Magicians series. The cover was designed by Alivia Anders (White Rabbit designs & creations). I purchased this cover back in October 2013 and have been waiting for this day when I could reveal it. I was immediately excited about the cover. I had a lot of different ideas about how the design could look, but this turned out better than I imagined. I love the mood of it and the small but important details.

What does Alaire's story hold in store for us? Well, we can take a closer look at his story now with the revealing of the teaser. I posted a teaser a while back when Shadows and Embers was an available ebook download. This teaser, however, I picked directly out of the book. It's a scene I personally love because it has two of the males character I've grown to love over the years. I spent several days deciding on this teaser and hope you enjoy it. Please note that the following scene is told from Alaire's point of view and does not include spoilers.
Teaser:
We followed the noises and passed by more trees until Léal was in our sight. He performed a spell which hit the tree in front of him. Rostland held me back and gestured he would advance first.
Slowly stepping forward, Rostland said, “Léal, you need to stop before you hurt yourself.”
He turned around and glared, but sweat covered his face and ran past his neck.
Léal replied, “You knew her for one year; I knew her for five. She kept saying time and time again she was on my side, and I never once believed her until the end.”
Rostland took another step forward, but Léal raised his hand. I considered moving closer to help if anything spun out of control, but I was confident in Rostland.
“Do you plan to kill me again? Come now, you’re making a fool out of yourself,” Rostland said in a firm voice.
Léal whispered a word and cast a spell, causing a ice shard to strike through Rostland’s chest. Every muscle in my body tensed, but Rostland quickly ripped the icicle out and threw it on the ground. The icicle broke apart into pieces, and the two men stared at each other.

And lastly I wanted to show the covers for books 1-3 so far in the series.
If you want to read the original post on my main blog, please feel free to check it out. I will be updating my websites with the cover over the next couple days, so I apologize if I haven't updated yet. Please know that I am in the progress of doing so. Also, the cover is live on Goodreads, so please remember to take a look at it and add it to your "want to read" list.
What do you think of the cover? Out of all three books so far, what cover has been your favorite? Leave a comment below and let me know. Remember if you haven't done so already, share the cover reveal on your social media sites to tell your friends about TTB. This has been such an exciting event, and I'll be back more with more details about how it turned out and links to where you can read other posts about the reveal.
I have not had the time to post on this particular blog simply because my main one already covers what I might have covered here. However, I will try to see if I can get back into the hang of it. At the very least I would like this blog to contain the major posts about the series (so you can find them on both of my blog).
Remember to share the cover!

You're invited!

You've been cordially invited.....

The upcoming sequel of Cursed With Power is a work in progress, but it's no secret that Esmour is having a celebration.  You haven't heard?  Well that's okay; now you're invited to join in on the fun.  The question is what kind of celebration would Esmour want to make an event out of?  Is everyone in their best attire?

Since I'm working through this chapter and there is indeed a celebration, I might consider posting a teaser about it later on.  For now I do have to actually start writing the chapter, but enjoy the picture and think about it.
Be back soon with more!  (see...this is why I need to update this blog. I'll try to keep it actually updated this time around guys. *hugs*)

Don't forget to pick up your copy of Cursed With Power!  Now available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Old Line Publishing.

Did you fall in love with him?

"I'm Léal Irvine; I'm always quicker than them before I have to be careful."
One of the main reasons I love my job is because in some way or another I'm able to have a personal and emotional connection with my characters.
Though originally Léal didn't have much a role in Cursed With Power, I'm actually very pleased that he now has a role --even if it's minor.  While I know he's not happy with the small role --such an attention seeker!--it'll be interesting to see how everything turns out with him narrating the sequel.
What I really love about Léal --and don't tell him this!--is that he's dangerous.  He's not like anybody I know, and I'm looking forward to expanding his character in the years to come.
My advice to those of you aspiring writers: be dangerous, do something crazy, let your characters be unique.  A lot of readers these days are falling in love with these male characters because of the way they act, the things they say, and of course (as always) the way they look.  However, YOU have control over this.  If your characters talk about your character as someone who's "attractive" your reader will be able to grasp that more easily.  If your male MC is a sweet-talker, a flirt, or maybe throws some crude jokes out now and then.. It's okay so long as it fits in with who he is.  If your guy grew up learning manners from his parents and that family is everything, he could be totally different.  If your guy had parents who left him when he was a young boy, and he ran into the wilderness and lost his humanity for years, he will be different.  And these days, my dear writers, that is what readers want.  They don't want the stereotypical "hero" or "bad boy."  So don't be afraid to go out of your comfort zone to find how your character can have his place to shine.

And in case you're curious to read more about Léal, he paid a visit to my blog while I was editing (I warned you, he loves attention): here.  Enjoy your week!  I'll be back later on with more about the series.
